In recent years East Midlands has seen large scale developments in both industry and infrastructure. The planned expansion of Magna Park and East Midlands Gateway, along with a changing demographic will see even further changes to the area’s dynamics. As a result of the ongoing changes, we foresee drastic changes to the upcoming labor market.
Below are some of our predictions:
Care
It is expected that by 2038, 24.2% of the population in the UK will be over 65, compared to 18.3% in 2018 (ONS, 2019). With a rising aging population, it is inevitable that more people across the East Midlands will need to access care services and therefore increase the size and scope of the care sector.
This will increase job security for care assistants, healthcare visitors, on-call support etc. We have access to free care-related courses including manual handling and health and social care, Business 2 Business can help you develop a rewarding career in the care sector by helping you attain the qualifications and core skills required. We also work with local care organisations such as residential care homes and care agencies to help you secure a job within the industry.
Travel and Logistics
The current Magna Park site hosts international brands including Asda, Disney, DHL, Toyota and Britvic. With the planned expansion of the site set to increase it to 13,000,000 sq. ft. in total, We expect even more brands to utilise the site as a major distribution hub. We therefore expect warehouse operatives, FLT drivers and operations managers roles to increase.
The East Midlands Gateway is a 700-acre development adjacent to East Midlands Airport. It currently holds distribution Centre’s for companies including Amazon, Aldi and Shop Direct. It will eventually incorporate a rail freight interchange to transport storage containers and hold HGVs. We anticipate that this will bring increased driving and warehouse roles.
Both developments have gained an increased focus on improving local road networks and public transport links, for instance the introduction of the Skylink bus service. This has not only created direct warehouse related jobs but also respective jobs in transport and construction. Ultimately, this has made it easier for people across the East Midlands region to travel for work.
If you are interested in applying for jobs at either Magna Park or East Midlands Gateway. Business 2 Business work with employers and recruitment agencies that manage vacancies at these sites. We can also support you to gain employment, by assisting with your CV, application forms and helping you obtain job related qualifications including a FLT license.
Childcare
The number of under 20’s is expected to increase significantly. As a result, there will be a greater demand for educational services. We envisage that this will dictate the need for teachers, classroom assistants, nursery staff and lunchtime supervisors etc.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in education, Business 2 Business can help you research and enroll onto relevant courses, provide application and interview support.
Food Production
In 2020, Samworth Brothers launched their graduate and industrial placement scheme and celebrated their apprenticeship scheme during National Apprenticeship Week earlier in the year, showing a keen insight in developing young people into the food production industry. In addition, they are set to create more jobs with plans to expand Bradgate Bakery already approved.
If you are interested in starting or developing a career in food production, Business 2 Business can help you gain health and safety and food and hygiene qualifications and can help you search and apply for jobs.
